At the time of writing (May,2006) we have
just homed all 18 puppies from both Liz and Teasel who both gave birth in
February 2006.
The whole point of importing Liz from Sweden was to help to increase the
dangerously
small gene pool within the Irish Water Spaniel breed in the UK. To this end,
Liz's pedigree
has a number of Scandinavian dogs and a considerable number of American dogs in
it.
We decided to mate her to Irish Show Champion Cahean Ingleside (Cal),a Northern Irish dog
with good
solid Irish working lines (see pictures).
Although he is not a working dog his pedigree
suggests that any
offspring are likely
to be good workers. Anyone watching the BBC's 2005 coverage
of Crufts
will have seen Cal and his young owner, Emma O'Donnell who were making their first Crufts
appearances.
In order to preserve these lines in the UK and enhance the gene pool, we are
collaborating
with three other UK working kennels including:
Fendrake in East Anglia and Hiberna
in the Midlands.
Collectively, we now hold 4 of the offspring from this mating to
ensure they are
worked and are available to augment the working lines in the future.
Liz was whisked off to Ireland on 14th December 2005
and mated with
Cal on the 15th and gave birth on 14 February 2006 to her first litter,10
puppies, seven dogs and three bitches.
They all went to their new homes in April.

Due to popular demand and
the excellent progress of a number of the puppies from our first litter
out of Teasel, by Radicott Waterbug (Paddy McGinty), including our own
Ellie, we decided to have a repeat mating and these puppies too have now
gone to their new homes.

The mating has been
successful and her litter of 8 pups was born on 27 February 2006, 3
bitches and 5 dogs.
